Qarmet achieved a significant milestone by producing the first 1 million tons of steel in 2024.

Qarmet

The largest metallurgical plant in Kazakhstan, Qarmet, has produced its first 1 million tons of steel this year. The company reports an increase in average monthly production volume compared to last year's figures by 50 thousand tons. From January to April 2024, Qarmet's plants produced an average of 300 thousand tons of steel per month.

These production successes are accompanied by the implementation of a large-scale modernization program aimed at increasing production capacity to 5 million tons of steel by 2028. In May, metallurgists expect another rise in the schedule to 326 thousand tons of steel. This will be facilitated by the commissioning of converter No. 2 after repairs and the subsequent operation of all three converters. Qarmet adheres to the "Localization" strategy, aimed at meeting the needs of the domestic market. According to the company, in the first four months of 2024, the volume of flat rolled steel sales increased by 8% compared to the same period last year. Sales in the Central Asian markets have grown by 15%. The company emphasized that the demand for the plant's products is also growing, confirming the effectiveness of the adopted "Localization" strategy.

"We have adopted a program for 3.5 million tons of steel in slabs and blooms in 2024. This plan exceeds the figures of previous years, but we do not stop there. Thanks to a wide-scale program of modernization and shop repairs, we will be ready to produce 5 million tons by 2028." – Director of the Steel Department at Qarmet, Andrey Berg

As production volumes grow, so does demand. The company's primary task is to meet all the needs of the domestic market, where there is significant growth in demand for products with polymer and galvanized coatings, hot-rolled coils. Qarmet continues to actively develop and strengthen its market position. The company employs about 35 thousand people, confirming the scale of the enterprise and its importance for the region's economy.
