AK "Altynalmas" to Begin Development of Bakhtay Deposit in 2025
JSC "AK 'Altynalmas'" continues to expand its gold mining activities, announcing the start of the development of the new Bakhtay gold deposit in the Aktogay district of the Karaganda region. According to the company, the project is scheduled to launch in 2025.
The Bakhtay deposit, which has not been previously developed, was explored geologically since the mid-20th century. Between 2018 and 2021, 52 drill holes were completed on the deposit's territory, and around 30,000 samples were collected for further analysis.
One of the key advantages of the deposit is its proximity to the company's main asset, the Pustynnoye Mining and Processing Plant, which will allow for the efficient processing of gold-bearing ore from the new deposit. The planned mining will be conducted by open-pit methods, expected to achieve a high pit productivity of 940,000 tons of ore per year.
The resources of the deposit were evaluated in accordance with the KAZRC code and were added to the company's balance sheet in 2021. According to the company, the identified reserves amount to 1.23 million tons of ore with 2,328 kg of gold content (average grade – 1.89 g/t), while the inferred reserves are 577,000 tons (698 kg of gold, average grade – 1.21 g/t).
The development of the deposit will be carried out over a period of two years, after which the company plans to continue exploration and development work on the Bakhtay ore field to further increase reserves.
It is worth noting that recently "Altynalmas" received an ICMI certificate from the International Cyanide Management Institute for its Pustynnoye deposit, confirming compliance with high environmental safety standards.
